    Summary: Hydriq stores all your data locally on your device by default. Optional Google Drive backup transmits encrypted data only when you explicitly enable it. We do not share personal information with third parties. There are no analytics, no ads, and no tracking.

1. Introduction

Hydriq ("the App") is a hydration tracking application for Android developed by an independent developer ("we", "us", "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how the App handles your information.

By using Hydriq, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

2. Information We Collect

    All data you enter is stored on your device by default. If you enable Google Drive backup, an encrypted copy of your data is uploaded to your personal Google Drive account (see Section 4).

The App allows you to input the following data, which is stored locally on your device only:

3. How Your Data Is Stored

All data is stored in an encrypted local database (Room/SQLite with SQLCipher AES-256-GCM encryption) on your device.
The encryption key is derived using the Android Keystore hardware-backed security system.
App preferences are stored in local SharedPreferences on your device.
The App does not include any analytics SDKs, crash reporting tools, advertising frameworks, or telemetry of any kind.
Network requests are made only for: optional Google Drive backup/restore, Google Sign-In authentication, and in-app purchase verification via Google Play Billing. All network traffic uses HTTPS.

4. Cloud Backup

Google Drive Backup (Optional)

You may optionally sign in with your Google account to back up your hydration data to Google Drive. When enabled:

Your data is encrypted using Google Tink AEAD encryption before being uploaded to Google Drive.
Backups are stored in your Google Drive's appDataFolder — a hidden, app-isolated folder that is not visible in your Drive UI and can only be accessed by Hydriq.
A maximum of 3 recent backups are retained; older backups are automatically pruned.
Your Google email address is stored locally to maintain the sync session.
You can disable backup, delete cloud backups, or sign out at any time in Settings → Data & Privacy.
We do not access any other files in your Google Drive — the App uses only the drive.appdata scope.

Android Auto Backup

Android may back up your app preferences (theme, settings) via Google's Auto Backup service. Your hydration database and encryption keys are excluded from Auto Backup to protect your health-related data.

You control Android's backup settings in your device's system settings.

5. Data Export & Portability

The App provides built-in tools for data portability:

JSON Backup: Export your complete data (profile + hydration logs) as a JSON file.
CSV Export: Export your hydration logs as a CSV spreadsheet (Pro feature).
Restore: Import a previously exported JSON backup.

Exported files are saved to your device's Downloads folder or shared via Android's share sheet. We have no access to these files.

6. Data Deletion

You have full control over your data. You can delete it at any time:

Individual entries: Swipe to delete any drink log (with undo).
All data: Settings → Data & Privacy → Delete All Data permanently removes all hydration logs and resets your profile.
Cloud backups: Delete all Google Drive backups from Settings → Data & Privacy.
Uninstall: Uninstalling the App removes all locally stored data.

7. Sharing Features

Hydriq allows you to generate and share milestone and achievement cards as images. These images are:

Created locally on your device as bitmap images.
Shared through Android's standard share sheet (the destination is your choice).
Never uploaded to any Hydriq server — we have no visibility into where or if you share them.

8. Background Services

The App uses the following background processes, all of which operate locally on your device:

Reminder alarms: Scheduled via Android's AlarmManager to deliver hydration notifications at optimal times. Re-established after device restart.
Auto-backup: A periodic local backup task (via WorkManager) that creates encrypted snapshots of your data on-device. Retains the last 7 local backups.
Drive sync: If you enable Google Drive backup, a WorkManager task may periodically sync your encrypted backup to Drive.

No background service transmits data to any server other than your personal Google Drive (and only if you opt in).

9. Permissions

The App requests only the following Android permissions:

No permission grants access to your camera, microphone, contacts, location, or any other sensitive data.

10. Third-Party Services

Hydriq integrates with the following Google services only:

Google Play Billing — processes in-app purchases (Hydriq Pro, Tip Jar). Payment details are handled entirely by Google Play; the App stores only a purchase status flag locally.
Google Drive API — optional cloud backup to your personal Drive (drive.appdata scope only). Backups are encrypted before upload. Used only when you enable Drive backup in Settings.
Google Sign-In (via Credential Manager) — authenticates your Google account for Drive backup. Your email is stored locally; no data is sent to our servers.

The App does not use:

No analytics (no Firebase, Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude, etc.)
No advertising SDKs
No crash reporting tools (no Crashlytics, Sentry, Bugsnag, etc.)
No social media integrations
No proprietary server-side components — all data stays between your device and your Google account

11. In-App Purchases

Hydriq offers optional in-app purchases:

Hydriq Pro ($2.99 one-time) — unlocks cosmetic Spirit skins, outfits, accessories, theme packs, and utility features (CSV export, edit history, calendar heatmap). No core functionality is gated behind Pro.
Tip Jar (3 tiers: $0.49 / $0.99 / $1.49) — optional support tips.

All purchases are processed by Google Play Billing. The App does not store payment card details or financial information. Purchase records are managed by Google Play.

12. Children's Privacy

Hydriq is not directed at children under 13. The App contains opt-in alcohol tracking (for adult wellness use) and in-app purchases. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with data, please contact us so we can assist with deletion. Parental guidance is recommended.

13. Health Disclaimer

Hydriq is a wellness tool designed to help you track your water intake. It is not a medical device and should not be used as a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always consult your healthcare provider regarding your hydration needs, especially if you have a medical condition.

14. International Users & Your Rights

General

Hydriq does not operate servers or transfer your data internationally. All personal data remains on your device (and in your personal Google Drive if you opt in to backup). There is no data controller server infrastructure.

European Economic Area (GDPR)

If you are located in the EEA, the following applies:

Legal basis: Processing is based on your consent (providing data during onboarding) and legitimate interest (app functionality).
Data controller: The independent developer publishing Hydriq on Google Play. Contact: hydriq.app@gmail.com.
Your rights: You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing, object to processing, and port your data. All of these can be exercised directly within the App (see Sections 5 and 6) or by contacting us.
No international transfers: Your data is stored locally on your device. If you use Google Drive backup, Google's privacy policy governs Drive storage.
Right to complain: You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

California (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident:

We do not sell or share your personal information.
We do not use your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
You have the right to know what data we collect (see Section 2), to delete it (see Section 6), and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
Categories of personal information collected: identifiers (display name), health-related information (weight, hydration logs), and internet activity (only Google Drive API calls, if you opt in).

15. Data Security

We implement industry-standard measures to protect your data:

Local database encrypted with SQLCipher (AES-256-GCM).
Encryption keys protected by the Android Keystore hardware-backed system.
Google Drive backups encrypted with Google Tink AEAD before upload.
All network communication over HTTPS only (cleartext traffic disabled).
No data logging in release builds (all debug logs stripped via ProGuard).

16. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes will be communicated through the App. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
